I saw Alexis Brion on TV when she was 10 at the USAIGC championships. She was
doing triple twists and piked full twisting double backs. (I only saw her
floor unfortunately)

(I'm just posting this to the list in case anyone else is interested)
Reaching back into seventh grade... Alexis is 12 (or somewhere
around 12, depending on what month her birthday is in) now, and she was
eight when she competed Level 6.  Actually, she sort of competed 6 and
8 at the same time.  It was really weird.  And at that time she'd
only been doing gymnastics for two years.  Or so I was told.

I'm looking to find out where 96' USAIGC Championships are going to be held.
I know the information gets posted at the championships themselves (I won't
be there) -- so if you could share this information that would be great.

Thanks

Subject: Benchmarking

This is a note to all...

I am the parent of a 6-year old who is currently training at level 5 at
Karolyi's.  Although she is been in gymnastics for 2 years we are still
very much novices in terms of how she is doing and what kind of
potential she may have.  We are fortunate to be able to watch Kim
Zmeskal and other top gymnasts train, but I have never been able to
understand how to extrapolate my girls skills now against where she
might be able to go.

I was hoping that some of you on this listserv might be able to help
generate a benchmarking timeline of sorts which we could use to rate
her skills now versus what is typical for an average gymnasts and what
is typical for a world-class gymnast.

For example, age 6 - average = almost a kip, back handspring, front
walk over - world-class = kip, multiple back handspring.  Where these
skills can be matched up against specific events this is even better.

We are trying very hard to not fall into the category of pushy parents,
but with gymnastics taking 22 hours per week + a lot of $, etc.  We are
interested in understanding where she is on the curve and as time goes
on age 7,8,9, etc. where she will need to be if by 14,15 she wants to
be competing at near the top.

If I can get some good replies from this I will assemble the
information and re-send it back out for others.

Thanks.
