Subject: Hi gymn-ers!

Hey! This is my "introduction" to the forum as requested.  My name is
Rebecca (Bex/Becky), I'm 19 and a student of German at
Birmingham University, UK.  Obviously I'm into gymnastics (!), but as
a coach now - I teach littlies (both boys and girls, aged 3-10) basic
gym skills on floor and vault in a non-competitive environment at our
local leisure centre back home.  I'm hoping to take the next level of
coaching exam over the summer and maybe get into some coaching at a
more competitive level at a club here in Brum.  I also still do gym
from time to time - we have a great new facility at the university -
but I gave up serious training when I was 8.  I'm a little rusty these
days! Looking forward to reading what you all have to say ..

Subject: Introduction

        Good Morning from Oklahoma!

My name is Ligia and I don't know why I am still
involved with gymnastics. My son quit the sport last December
(1994) after 10 years of competitive gymnastics.
By the time my son quit, I did a lot of volunteer work at his
gym, and I'm still doing it. From computer data entry for
meets, to training parents on how to use the computer during
the meets, to writing software systems for the gym, ... Never
        ending.

Through the years, I learned a lot about gymnastics,  mostly
men's. I learned to enjoy the sport with a little more depth
than a regular spectator, and I still enjoy the sport.

For a while I could've judge compulsory boys (I passed the
judges test), but my strengh has always been in organization
of meets and training of parent volunteers. The Bart Conner
Gymnastics Academy has some of the best run meets that I've
ever been at, and I have been to many. From the 1992 Olympics
in Barcelona, to Junior Nationals, to Oklahoma's Judges Cup
(womens), to just simple and small pre-season meets.

Well, That is my introduction. And if I can be of any help,
just drop me a line (or two)!

        Happy Memorial Weekend!!!

        Ligia.

If anyone tapes the Jr. Olympic Women's Championships, please let me
know.  I would very much like a copy of the tape and would pay for a
tape (or send one of my own) and would pay you for your time.  Some
local gymnasts competed and I would very much like to see the
competition.

Thanks,
 --Brent

Well, The 1995 Junior Olympic National Gymnastics Championships were on
Sports Channel last night, so I thought I'd post my impressions.  I thought
maybe some of you would be interested.

AA (13-14)                              AA (9-12)
1)  Cami Singer                       1)  Marline Stephens
2)  Jeana Rice                          2)  Shawna McClung
3)  Emily Chell                         3)  Shelly Harris
4)  Tina Ellis                           4)  Kristen Thorne
     Aronda Primault                       Laura Blank
6)  Jennifer Barker                  6)  Julie Rankin
7)  Kelly Parkenson                       Melissa Rollins
                                                8)  Nicole Lyme

The show was highlights of the event finals, with everyone's favorite
commentators, John Naber and Maura Driscoll!!!  A lot of top clubs were there
with there young stars:  Karolyi's, Dymnamo, Cyprass, Cincinnati, etc.  The
commercial breaks had a new commercial featuring Bart and Nadia for York
furnaces.  One really dumb thing was that they flashed back to the 1994
Olympic Festival using Shannon Miller's 1993 win!  I guess Doni Thompson
isn't a big enough name for them!

Vault (13-14)                         Vault (9-12)
1)  Chell                                  1)  Andrea Dachille
2)  Tacia Labette                     2)  Trisha Dixon (Dynamo)
3)  Brook Stan                          3)  Blank

Andrea Dachille, 11, from Ohio is a tiny, pale little girl with a long blond
poonytail, but she just exploded down the runway to win vault, first a
hankspring front pike, the front double tuck.

Unevens (13-14)                          Unevens (9-12)
1)  Phaedra Dixon                         1)  Tara Phillips
     Alyssa Beckerman                   2)  Kristin Uransky
3)  Stacy Wong                                   Mary Skokut
     Cami Singer
     Ashley Lamb

Beam (13-14)                               Beam (9-12)
1)  Singer (Ariels)                        1)  Katie Frost
2)  Jeana Rice                                2)  Christine Manillia
3)  Cheryl Lancaster                      3)  Sarah Meisberger

I was impressed with the girl's poise on beam.  There was a lot of leaping
(sheep jumps).  When Manillia opened with a reverse planche, Nabor
brilliantly exclaimed, " That's the Kim Zmeskal pose!)

Floor (13-14)                             Floor (9-12)
1) Jeana Rice                             1)  Nicloe Lyme
2)  Jennifer Barker                     2)  Julie Rankin
3)  Cami Singer                           3)  Alyson Cacciatore
     Brandy Killian

Rankin, 12, from Karolyi's showed mature dance and her middle pass was 3
whips to a double twist (Nabor: "That's a Kim Zmeskal routine!")
Lyme, 12, from Cincinnati has Amanda Borden's smile and energy and ended with
a triple twist.  Driscoll intervied her afterwards and after saying she'd
"just went out and did the best I could", Driscoll asked her how going up
last affected her performance, and she said with a liitle annoyance, "It
didn't, because I just said I went out and did the best I could!"  It was
pretty cute!
Rice, 13, from Brown's Central, is coached by her mom, Joan Rice (now has new
last name) from the '72 Olympics.  She opened with a whip to 2 1/2 twist, and
ended with a triple full.

There were more commercials than routines, but it was an interesting look
into the future.  The levle of difficulty was great, as well as the athletes'
composure!

I watched the Junior Olympics last night but forget the results. I'll post
them later. Everyone looked good! Especially the 11-13 year olds. All the
girls were level 10 and had to qualify from regionals only US gymnasts
competed. Mara Driscal one of the comintators kept calling a geinger a
delchev. It got really annoying especially since she said she had trained
with Muriel Grossovelt and should know her stuff.

Thats ALL!

If anyone say the J.O. Championships, did you see the Bart and Nadia
commericial for York heating?  It was really stupid.  They were wearing York
leos and did these tricks.
Just to let you know :)

Since ytou are only 13 I will not use the ENTIRE force of my flamethrower
on you...

Go easy on the caps key when you post.
Since we can only type here here, we can not see the expression on someones
face, hear the inflection of their words, see their body language,
we must use certain shorthand methods of expression.
Use of cap letters is the equivalent of shouting.

Now you WOULD'NT do that WOULD you ?
I didnt THINK so !

(Maniacal laughter)

You should consider yourself fortunate in that this is likely the most polite
and gentle flaming Ive nailed anyone with this year !

(more laughter)

So enjoy surfing the net !
By the way.... perspiring minds want to know...
Who IS "Mr Pinto" ?
