Re: '95 Intl. Romanian Champs
To add to Rachele's
response, the "oak tree" is credited to Omelianchik
in
the Code, though as far as anyone I know can
tell, hers had a 3/4 twist.
Often this skill is performed
ungracefully, and especially when it's landed
in a
straight handstand with no split or anything else it looks just like
that -- a tree trunk.

4. Claire Cribbes 37.312
5.
Genevieve Preston 36.862
6.
Jenny Smith
36.787 (fell off beam)
Vault:
1. Jenny Smith
9.337
2. Nicole Kantek 9.212
3.
Claire Cribbes 8.90
Bars:
1.
Ruth Moniz
9.525
2. Nicole Kantek 9.30
M. Laws
9.30 (don't know her first name)
Beam:
1. Lisa Moro 9.50
2.
Joanna Hughes
9.25
3. Jade Davidson 9.00
Unfortunately I
don't have the floor results.
A week or so ago Joanna Hughes was
interviewed on a local show,
"Sportsworld". I thought she looked really good - her
line on bars
was great, but unfortunately the
Nationals results don't show this.
Joanna admitted she watches
"Melrose Place"!!! Bit of
trivia for you
all!!

AGA and Wrist guards
Hi. I
am looking for information on a couple of things.
1. I have some gymnasts interested inordering wrist protectors for tumbling,
etc. Does anyone
know where we can find them and which brands are
better (or
worse)?
2. I am also looking for information on
AGA. Is it a state-based
organization or national? Where can I get information on it? And, what type
pf gymn program is it best
for?
3. Lastly, what is
the USAG prep program?
Thanks
Debbie

Re: Australian Nationals
Hi folks,
As Simone has already told
you, Aussie Nationals were this weekend,
however,
here's a few adjustments to the results she gave:
> Women's
AA:
> 1. Nicole Kantek 37.662
>
2. Ruth Moniz
37.40
> 3. Joanna Hughes 37.325
> 4. Claire Cribbes 37.312
> 5.
Genevieve Preston 36.862
>
6. Jenny Smith
36.787 (fell off beam)
These are only the optional scores
(explains why they're in the 30's!).
Overall, things don't change much
except Smith was 5th. Ruth Moniz
won
compulseries over
Jade Davidson (who BTW lives 3 streets away from me :)
> M. Laws
9.30 (don't know her first name)
It's Melissa.
>
Unfortunately I don't have the floor results.
Another
gold to Lisa Moro on that event.
As for the mens,
Andrei Kratsov won over Bret Hudson. Optional totals were:
1. Kratsov 54.850
2. Hudson 53.650
3. Hogan
52.550
4. Kingston 52.350
5. Mamine 51.250
6. Grigson 50.850
In the
Rythmic Leigh Marning won
again. Optional totals were:
1. Marning 44.580
2. Darrah 44.470
3. Mitchell 42.920
My talent
scout abilities left me with egg all over my face again, with
Brisbanes Sarah Drovandi sharing
1st place in the sub-juniors with South
Australias
Karina Laenger (they won 8 medals between them). I saw Sarah
compete
last month, and even though she won the division, barely noticed
her......
As for the Aussie team to Sabae, the third trial will be National Club
Champs, in
Adelaide in August. From there they
will progress to a
training camp in Canberra,
until the best seven are selected for Worlds.
If I was
choosing the team at this point, it would be:
Kantek,
Moniz, Hughes, Moro, Cribbes, Smith, & Davidson
for compluseries
only.
It's
interesting to note, that of those seven girls, only two, Moniz &
Hughes,
were old enough for Dortmund, which should explain our absense.
Just my thoughts.

Re: Oz Nat'l Tidbits
Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd clear up,
some of the mistakes from the Aussie AP......
>
Nicole Kantak (NSW) won the Women's AA [or so the
article aludes ... there
> were
no more results after compos so I can't be sure]
Kantek
was interviewed on Natinal TV and introduced as the
new Natinal
Champ, so although scoring doesn't
make any sense, you can be sure she IS
Australias
1995 Champ.
> Moro won both floor and beam and Nat'l coach Ju Ping said of her "Lisa is
> certainly a shining light for Australian gymnastics."
Moro lives away from
> her home in Melbourne
during the week to train with Fiona Bird.
What on earth?! Fiona Bird
coaches her Victorian kids in Melbourne (the
Cheltnam
Youth Club to be exact), so though I can't guarantee it, I'm
pretty sure she doesn't live away from home, since Lisa
lives in
Melbournes outer suberbs.....
> It says that Moniz only recently moved
to the controversy
> laden Insitute
of Sport from her home in Sydney.
This sentence is a joke! Ruth Moniz has lived in residence at the
AIS
since at least 1990 (could be since 89, but 90
is the first footage I
have of her there). Which certainly makes her the longeset serving
gymnast
there. (she
said in a mid-91 interveiw, that she'd been at
the
AIS for 'two and a half years now')
> It doesn't say why
but star Kasumi Takahashi did not take part. No mention of
> whether she competed in the AA or not.
Nope, she
wasn't there. She's the best RSG
gymnast in the country and
isn't required to fly
half way across the world to prove it.
Also, Trent Dimas performed exabition routines at Nationals. I know
little
about mens gymnastics, but from the tiny bit I saw,
he looked
pretty good.
The
media in Australia knows so little about gymnastics, it
isn't funny.
I counted 5 mistakes in one newspaper article! Not that TV coverage was
any better, only one show even mentioned it! Which is actually because
it's in Perth, and the east coast media rarely covers events
on the other
side of the country.

Anybody know Lou Perske?
I recently received
the following note from a "chap" named Barry. If any of you knows Lou Persky, please email me! (This note has already been forwarded to
Glenn Sundby.)
--Rachele
| Rachele,
|
|
I'm a new subscriber to the WWW and an X Olympic gymnast from Australia -
| 1964 - 72 and coach 1976.
|
| In the late sixties
a chap called Lou Persky probably now in his
late
| firties came to
Australia for 3 years or so and married a blind Australian
| girl and disappeares back to the
USA. He was known to Glenn Sundby of the
|
Gymnast Magazine and organised some of the early
GYMFESTS on Muscle Beach
| Cal. One of the gymnasts he trained was a guy
called Frudenstine, I think.
|
| Anyway I'd
love to catch up with him again to say Hi. He made a
| consiiderable impact on my career and to that of
Australian gymnastics which
| was very much in its
infantancy at that stage of geographic isolation
from
| the gymnastic world.
|
| If you can
advise or suggest any way of getting a message out that may
| locate an address I would be most gratefull.

Re: National HS Champs
I just got back today from high school
nationals. I was
actually a competitor so I don't have complete results at
all.,
just what I remeber
from watching the meet. Overall, it
was
a great meet. Everyone seemed to have a terrific time,
both
at the meet and in the other activities for
the weekend. now
on the to competition.
The level of gymnastics was
very high at this meet,. Most of
the
gymnasts were level nines a or tens (former and current).
I mean women
competitors, that is. The men
seemed to range
fo from
the top juniors all the wat way down to guys who
had just started gymnastics in high school.
The prelininary competions for men
and women were both held on
Friday.
These were also the all0-around and team competion.
The
men's all-around was won be by Todd Bishop of New York (I
didn't
know it, but he's the current U>S.S SA jr elite
class
I all-around champion , too). The texas boys team took first
in and n.y. took either second or
third.
The womens competion
was won by Beth Brown fo
Texas and Second
went to Denise Johnson of Marylnad
(Yeah!!!). Denise only
missed first by .025
which was really disapoiniting for her.
Texas
girls also won first with N.Y. in second
(my lea team, Maryland
, came in last, but
we kind of expected taht. Even with Denise)
I don't remember
the men's event finals champions except that
Todd took first atleast once (high be bar). Denise went on
th to come in first on vault, floor, tie on beam ,
and second
on bars.
Well, that's all the ta that I can remember. If anyone wants
exact
results I can probably get te them. I know that
Denise took a copy of
them home with her.
Bye,
Megan

Suggestions for Web pages
Hey all, I'm doing a makeover of the web
pages, so I'm asking for
suggestions from people
who use them with any regularity. I'm asking
for
nitpicky suggestions that will make the pages more user-friendly.
For
instance, I am going to list the current event results in reverse
chronological order so that the most recent competitions are
always at
the top - the first thing you see when
you hit the homepage. I'll
probably move the
hotlist link to the top to also make it more
accessible.
Any suggestions along those lines would be much
appreciated!
Any
suggestions regarding pictures etc -- please hold off
on those as
I am not ready to implement those yet. Thanks!

Re: National HS Champs
Well, I was at the meet judging the woman's
competition. I, however, did
not
get a copy of the final results. I do remember that it was pratically a
sweep by Texas
winning the Men's and Woman's team and the Woman's AA. I
think
they also won the Men's AA also.
