spondylolisthesis (sp?)
Looking for gymnasts and maybe coaches who have dealt
with this common gymnastic back problem--spondylolisthesis
(sp?).
My
daughter has it and will be wearing a
brace for 3 months. I'm trying
to
find out what are here chances of coming back
to gymnastics, if any,
how hard will it be, what
adjustments she may have to make, what
conditioning
may help either now or later. Any
light you can shed on
this would be helpfull, any encouragement would be even better. If
there
are some who came back only to re-injure themselves please let
us know this also.
Just wondering how to mentally prepare her for a
comeback
- or retirement, that kind of stuff??
Thanks much!

hey all,
A
friend of mine will hopefully be competing in the olympics in Atlanta.
Not being real up to date
with gymnastics i would like some input on his
chances. His name is John Macready, can anyone tell me how
he'll do. I'm in
a way
somewhat familar with womans
gymnastics as my wife was class 1
gymnast (when
they had that system) and recieved numerous
scholarships.

Re: GYMN-L Digest - 1 Jan 1996 to 2 Jan 1996
OLYMPIC PREDICTIONS:
Recently,
'The Economist' ( a conservative British publication
about economics etc.) predicted in
their 'The World in 1996' issue
that Shannon
Miller would lead the US team to gold in the team
competition,
but that the most medals would be awarded to Domonique
Moceanu.
WORLD CHAMP AWARDS:
Last week, a
friend of mine told me that he saw Leonid Kutchma
the
President of Ukraine, give some special awards to both
Lilia Pod
and the Rythmic
World championshion who is also from Ukraine
(but
I cannot recall her name at the moment.)
UKRAINIAN SPORTS
COVERAGE:
I was watching the typical end of the year in sports
compilations,
and I was a bit frustrated. They
showed about two minutes of
'Dinamo' the Kyivan (Kievan) based football
(soccer) team, which was kicked
out of the lead-up
competition to the world cup due to someone
trying
to bribe a Spanish ref. Then, they
showed a whole three
seconds of the beginning of
Lilia's vault. Luckily, the
rhythmic
World Champion was shown for about five seconds, and the
current
(forgive me if I am wrong about this)
women's long jump World Champ
who is also from
Ukraine, got about six seconds. There was
absolutely
no coverage of the Women's European Basketball champions
(also from Ukraine). There was a flash of the World
Kickboxing
Champ (from Ukraine), and some wrestling.
I was hoping they would
have shown more gymnastics
:(
NORTH AMERICAN and EUROPEAN VCR COMPATABILITY:
Just for
people's info, for those of you who have had the
frustrating
experience of being told that their European video tapes
and
North American tapes are not compatible, this is not entirely true.
There
are what are called "MULTI-SYSTEM" VCR's. Basically, these
VCR's allow you to
play, and even record in different formats. For
example,
PAL, MESCAM, SECAM, and NTSA (or NTSC).
Unknowingly,
I bought one (as almost all of the VCR's here are
multi-system) and
I have been able to watch US and Canadian Video tapes, as
well as
British and Ukrainian. So, I am going to be bringing my tapes
from
the US, and I will no longer be Gymnastically
deprived!!. For
others, this means that if you
have (unknowingly) a Multi-system
VCR, you could exchange tapes with people
in other countries, if
you have the appropriate compatabilities. Or, if you will be buying
a VCR in the near future, it may be something that you can
keep in
mind. (I do not know about the VCR types
in New Zealand, Australia,
Latin America, Africa, or Asia, but it may be
true for these as
well?)
