ESPN COVERAGE OF WORLD'S TRIAL: WOMENS
I say the coverge
and it was nice to see since I heard alot about
the
arena and I liked the podiums. I guess it was better
than at Nationals.
BTW: Fashion news flash to Kurt Thomas: Don't
even DARE wear that hediuos
combination
of a jacket and tie again. What did you want to look like?
an Iguana?
I'm done here.

WORLDS: explanation of scores just posted
Today the only score sheets
available were the team totals as I
posted, plus
the first page each for men and women's AA. Therefore, I
do
not have more details on the Australian men/women or Canadian
women. I have
posted EVERY score I received from day 2.
For that same
reason, although I have the scores for many competitors
below
34th place (who competed on day 1), I do not know their current
rank after the second day. Thus I marked those competitors with an
*.
Hopefully more information will be available tomorrow!

| The top Russian guy at 22nd?!
Whatever happened to Nemov? Gee.
Well, I
don't know much, but from a Reuters newswire:
Russia:
Shabaev got 8.775 on rings, high bar.
Nemov fell off high bar for a 6.525, and an AA total of
51.8.
The Russian coach, Genken, says that
perhaps they trained *too* hard
for this meet and are tired.
Belarus:
Scherbo "displayed flawless play except the
rings".
Ivankov fell off high bar for a
7.275.
Belarusian coach Vladimir Vatkini said
that Ivankov had a shoulder
injury two and a half weeks ago.

USA Men, women's scores and ESPN
Date sent: 4-OCT-1995 08:20:29
Well, all I
can say is, despite having popped in the song "Get Ready for
This"
this morning (no joke, just got it yesterday), I was NOT ready to see
what I saw with the US men this morning. I broke down in
tears. Gratz to a
group
who has been much maligned over the past year. I wish them well in
the optionals.
One
comment only about the women: The US has generally been acknowledged as
having some of the best compulsory floors in the world. Are
they really
that far lower than Romania? I wonder
if the judging weren't a little low,
but I'd like
to hear from someone at the meet in that regard, since I
cannot
actually see the routines.
And finally, I saw ESPN's coverage, or lack
thereof last night. I'm
extremely upset because I
forgot to fast-forward to the end of my nationals
coverage,
and lost all the event finals but vaulting. And I lost it for
ESPN's coverage. We never got to see anything of Kerri Strug in the second
half of
the meet, and nothing of Kulikowski at all! Except
for a shot of
her while she was waiting for Doni's floor score. Yeeuch. And,
to top it
off, I really hate Mara Driscoll and the
idiot working with her. She needs
to learn
something, like how to announce. *steps off
bitch-box" Sorry, ESPN
tends to make me mad.
On the good side, they showed alot of good
routines,
and I enjoyed what was shown. One real
quick question, mroe of an opinion:
Who keeps
saddling Amy Chow with classical music? It really doesn't suit
her.
OK, that's all for now. And, this aimed to Rachele,
you're doing a great
job. Hope you're having fun,
too. :)
