| 5) Anyone know what Bela has to say about his results and the
| placing of his pupil?

Nope, but here is some more info.  Miller had an injured left ankle
during the optionals competition.  In an AP story it said that Nunno
offered her a cane after the competition but she declined it. The
following is from a USA Gymnastics press release which I will upload
in full when the electronic copy is available.  But for now, here is
what Karolyi had to say about Miller:

"This World Championshps was one of the most dramatic that I've been
through in my 30 years. Dawes, Borden, Phelps -- all injured. Coming
here tonight, Shannon was injured.  We did have some dramatic
moments. Shannon is Shannon; she is one of the most incredible
athletes I've ever seen. These athletes made it happen."

Nunno, re Miller: "Miracles happen with that kid."  Also, "Shannon was
going to scratch vault and floor because of a foot injury. We started
the competition on bars and then beam, and she decided to go for it.
We took out some of her difficult tumbling on floot, and she got
through it. Her fighting spirit carried the team to the bronze medal."

And Miller herself:

"When I went to bars, I did okay, and we decided I would do beam, but
only use a full twist dismount. I knew I wouldn't make beam finals if
I didn't do my full twisting, double back dismount, so I went for
it. Then I wanted to do floor because if I had not, we would have only
had five gymnasts on floor, and all of their scores would have to
count. After floor, I was only going to do one vault, but I took a big
step and had to do another one."

[Note re five on floor -- Phelps didn't compete floor (probably
because of her knee surgery) but she did compete the other three
events.]

More later.  I have all individual event scores for the top 10 teams
so I'm working on that now.

Worlds are on ABC at 4 pm EDT Sunday.

Does anyone know what happened to Jaycie Phelps? I didn't see her listed
in the all- around.  Also I would like to congradulate both US teams.
Maybe they will get medals individually.

Wow...
I didn't know shannon was injured...I am impressed that through all that,
she made the decision to keep competing.  I know that in the past we
have discussed how gymnasts risk their own wellbeing to keep competing,
but in this light I see an experienced gymnast who is dedicated to her
teammates and recognizes her limitations but also her capabilities.  She
made the decision and it was right for her...She really has grown up from
that young girl that barely said three words.
