Caught part of this interview. One of the questions that Roker asked
her was regarding the technical difficulty that gymnasts are able
to do today. She said that it was better training, techniques and
equipment. She went on to say that she couldn't imagine doing the degree
of difficulty that is being done today and that she was glad that she
was born 30 years ago.

on BET I saw an aid for kodak, this one showing pictures, not the
athletes after words. The used Dominic Dawes in this ad, but unlike the
one with morchanu (Bad spelling) they put "olympic Hopeful" why couldn't
they mention Dawes' medal in 92? After all, she did get one.

In our area we only have a small number of judges and the cost to
bring in others would be to high to make it worth our while. How we
do it is as long as there is no conflict of interest between the
competitors and the judges (eg. you coach them) then we will allow
you to officiate.

We treat our judges like professional and we expect them to act like
that. The head judge though is always from outside the area and has
no ties to any of the clubs this is the other safe guard that we have
put in inorder to keep things fair.

My daughter's gym has done the Bingo thing as well. Here is Virginia, it is
also limited to Non-profit groups. Recent laws have changed the way we're
taxed and it's not for the better. Bingo has worked well for us and
provided us with a good source of money. We have two sessions per week and
working Bingo is manadatory. For those parents who insist on NOT
participating in the Bingo Fundraiser, they are assessed a surcharge
(referred to as an Assessment Fee). We've also done the usual--candy, gift
wrap. Bingo seems to be the best and most reliable. Getting the parents to
not complain about working is another matter. However, when parents realize
the money they save by having bingo pay many meet, travel, and coaching
expenses, they see its value. This year we are trying a cookbook
fundraiser. This is not far enough along to judge its success.

Does anyone out there have any fundraising ventures to share?

I can only speak as a Florida judge. We are governed by the SGJA
(southeastern gymnastics judges association), but every regional mens'
judging association has their own rate schedule. Our is as follows:
We are paid per session (a session is defined as 48 routines judged) by our
level of certification.
Apprentice:$25/session and 50 cents/routine over 48
JO:$30/session and 75 cents/ routine over 48
National:$35/session and $1/routine over 48
FIG brevet:$40/session and $1.25/routine over 48

We are also re-imbursed for mileage, tolls, and meals.

I know this is kind of an old thread, but due to Easter and a VERY hectic last
couple of days, I am just now checking my e-mail. Anyway.

Last season, Nicole Garrett of University of Arizona threw a HUGE Hindorff
(free-hip circle immediate Tkatchev). Garrett was a Senior last year at AZ
and qualified to NCAAs.

This season, I saw a girl from Iowa State (one of the Mazza triplets?) perform
a very nice Hindorff, as well. Interestingly, she did hers facing away from
the low bar, while Garrett did hers facing the low bar (like Dawes).
