Her father is Ugandan. At least that's what I've been told.

Well, since we are comparing kristy powell and Mary Lou Retton,I just
thought of another one. Kristie Phillips won the 1986 junior title,
won the 1987 senior title, then missed the Olympic team. Parts one
and two apply to Moceanu, though i hope part three doesn't come true.

Subject: Speaking of "Kimbo"

Just thought I would let people know that Kim Zemeskel was at the World
Trials.  She was sitting in the stands, came down to where I was sitting to
say hello to some people on the floor -- she along with myself and Victor
Randasso were reprimmanded by the security for trying to get autographs.
Yes, we were a little surprised.  Any rate, she looks very healthy, I didn't
have a chance to ask her how her training is going, since we needed to
defended ourselves from the security guards.  She was also sporting a VERY
NICE pair of diamond earrings.

Has anyone else seen the new Nike commercial that has a child extolling
the virtues of children in sport (less chance of trouble teen pregnancy
etc.). I only caught the last half of it once last week. Good stuff! I
would love to have a copy of their statistics the next time some(insert
words of your choice here) tries to imply that there is something wrong
with my daughter spending 6 days a week in the gym!

When I started gymnastics at age 8, I had the biggest attitude in the
world.  I still threw temper tantrums, and was actually kicked out of the
gym more than I was allowed to stay (or so it seemed...)  By the end of
my career I was strong, and dedicated and best of all disciplined.  I
don't think I would be where I am today if it weren't for gymnastics.  A
lot of people gave my parents flack about me (they never pushed me) in
the gym.  I didn't hit puberty until I was seventeen, and now at 20 I'm
still only 4'9", but I'm healthy, and successful and very happy.  I might
have been an inch or so taller without gymnastics, but I also would
probably be on the streets or have 3 children by now.  Don't let anyone
tell you this sport is anything but amazing.

Subject: Re: 94 Worlds signed posters info & order form

(Hi everyone, I'm re posting this info, since I've recieved some requests
in the past few days about the 94 Worlds posters, and thought others
might be interested, now that a few gymners have recieved theirs, and
apparently liked them)

OK folks, I spoke to the president of the Queensland Gym Association
yesterday, and he was able to work out a cost for the posters worldwide.

They will cost $16 US for the first one, and $12 US for each one after
that, sent to the same address.  This price includes a packaging tube,
and air-mail postage to anywhere in the world (which takes a maximum of
about 7 days).

For T-shirts it is the same cost : $16 US for the first one, and $12 US
for each one after that, sent to the same address.  Again this includes
air-mail postage to anywhere in the world.  Be sure to include the
size(s) you want (16, 18, 20 or 22).

Make cheques (preferable bank) and money orders in US dollars
only, payable to the QGAI, and mail to:

> QGAI
> PO BOX 757
> CAPALABA
> QUEENSLAND
> 4157
> AUSTRALIA

Be sure to include your name, address and number of posters, and or
t-shirts you want.  Here is a sample order form you're welcome to print
and fill in.

Michelle

P.S. If you have any further questions, write to the QGAI.

_The Gymnasts_  books have some interesting progressions in them. I
remember one girl for whom a handspring was her favorite vault, but she was
still trying to get that pesky and very difficult layout-squat!
Betty Okino's mom is Romanian, and her dad Ugandan, i think. Betty
speaks Romanian, which surprised the heck out of Karolyi-the story i heard
was that Bela and Marta would speak together in Romanian if they didn't
want the gymnasts to understand. Betty, of course, did; so when they found
this out, they immediately switched to another language (i forgot which)
which Betty couldn't understand at all.
        Also, what's a Thomas?

bars, and a few clips of Kim doing compulsories.

Not only does it happen in the good old USA it happens very much here

I will be willing to follow the story on Judges and maybe the judging
system will change to be better all around not only for Elite but
National gymnasts as well.

In the "Other" directory at the ftp site (ftp.cac.psu.edu, /pub/gymn),
in addition to the USOC Coaching Code of Ethics, there is the
Preliminary Report (September, 1995) from the Task Force on USA
Gymnastics Response to the Female Athlete Triad.  I encourage all USA
Gymners to read this and give feedback to USA Gymnastics at
USGF@Delphi.com.  I likewise encourage non-USA Gymners to bring this
report to the attention of your federation(s).  Thanks to Steve
Whitlock for providing me with the text for this report. The report is
also the first "Current News" item on the WWW pages, if you want to
get to it that way.

I have uploaded an updated Calendar from John Courtney to the ftp
site/ WWW site that includes some September events, among other items.
I don't know who in Britain (Sherwin?) had been sending in so many
British events, but thanks to everyone who has been submitting
calendar items.  The calendar is thankfully much less "American" than
it used to be.  Thanks also to John Courtney for consistently
producing the Calendar on time for Gymn!

Also, sadly, the women's optionals report will go up tomorrow, not
today, as I had to stay at work yesterday until midnight!

It was a stunt double.  Demi was making jokes about the pregnancy
being tough on her physically, but not too tough... and about having
had the opportunity to even try some new things, like taking
gymnastics classes.  She asked Dave whether he wanted to see any of
the stuff she had learned... and then got up and walked off-stage,
saying she needed a running start.

Someone wearing an identical dress, with a pillow in the appropriate
place, ran out and die (1) a roundoff and two or three back
handsprings, and then (2) went back across the stage doing two side
aerials... and then disappeared into the wings.

Demi Moore returned back out, pretending to be tired and winded.

I don't have it on tape, but it's been shown as a rerun once already.
It was hilarious the first time, because it was so startling... she
sounded so credible as she was talking about everything leading up to
the discussion of the gymnastics classes, and then I thought, Well,
fine, she's going to do a forward roll or stand on her head or
something.  It may come around as a rerun again... who knows?

I have a few of the books in that series. My dad bought them for me in the
USA. They're quite nice but I'm growing out of them now.
My dad is going to the USA tomorrow and he wants to buy me some leotards
there. Does anyone know where he can get them? (Milano, Alpha Factor,
Crystal etc.) He'll be in San Jose in the Sunnyvale area. Thanx
Heln.

Dear Gymners,

This is not really on Gymn, so please forgive me. This is just an easy way to
tell everyone that I will be on the road next week, to go on world tour. And I
would love to meet some of you gymners. So, if you would like to meet me, and
you are a too far off route, please reply quickly as I am leaving Sep 20. For
now, my route will be:
Iceland (1 week),
New-york,
Atlantic City,
Toronto,
across Canada to Calgary, Vancouver, down West coast USA,
visiting SF, LV, LA.

After that it's still a blurr. I will travel by car where possible.

If this message does not interest you, I am sorry to take your time.

I used to read this series, but as it progressed further and further
into higher level gymnastics, I found myself getting very annoyed.
They blatantly rip off from elite gymnastics and stories which have
happened there (renaming the Yurchenko vault and then Mary Lou's story
being translated to Heidi's story). Also, they never got the score
right, which wouldn't have been that hard to figure out. I dunno, it
just annoys me when people don't bother to be accurate, especially
when it wouldn't be that hard to do so.

P.S. Rachele, please mail me when you have a chance.
