" with an "ABSOLUTELY NO MORE"! since then I've
been getting more mail about
" various
products/services. I never got
these until I got onto GYMN-L.
Is
" this coincidence, or is somebody
at America On-line selling out e-mail
" addresses? I seriously want to know what's going on
here! Anybody else from
Gymn's subscription list is private; we do not sell the
subscription
list to anyone.
If you have
ever posted to Gymn, or on any AOL board, or have
a
profile on AOL, etc etc, it's very easy for junk mailers to pick up
your handle.
Also, commercial services often do sell their
subscription lists so perhaps you should contact AOL. I get
junk mail
on AOL often, but that is the only
account of mine where it's been
significant.

RESULTS: SE Asian Games M&W EF
I couldn't find any AA results on
the newswires, but someone on the list has
said
that '92 (?) Jr. US Nat'l Champ Lana Apisukh (Broadway Gymnastics), now
competing for Thailand, won for the women. That would make
sense since she
also made a very good showing in
the EF. Thailand has been dominating the
medals at
the games in all sports.
Results are via Reuters and the event finals
were held over 2 days.

Best Brits
This question goes out to our friends in the UK, though
anyone on the list
should feel free to state his
or her opinion...
Neil Thomas is probably the best male gymnast to
emerge from Britain, relative
to other gymnasts in
the international scene. But who do
you think is the best
female that Britain has
produced, in relation to other international stars of
her
respective time? Avril Lennox?
Karen Robb? Kathleen
Williams? Susan
Cheesborough?
Sarah Mercer?
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. I have
always felt that the British
girls were somewhat
underscored in the international scene.

My pick will be Hayley Price of the 1980s when I
think she was twice
British Champion. Can't really think why I chose her
since as you
people know, there had never been any
world famous British female
gymnasts... Annika
Reeder may be a bit famous now when she became the
first
British woman to qualify for an apparatus final in a major
championships (Europeans'94) but her other pieces were not
too
clever.

Acrobatic vs Gymnastic
I'm a gymanstics mom and was reading the proposed USGA Level 7
changes and
had trouble understanding some of the
requirements. The series' for
beam
and floor referred to acrobatic elements with
and without flight and
gymnastics elements. Could
someone give me an explanation of the difference
between
them? In your explanation if you
could give examples of lower
level skills that
would be typical it would help me (and my daughter) a
lot.

Who, Mara? hehehe. I still think she should be off the air. But,
as
far as I can tell, she was right in this
instance. It is called the
Miller. Or, at least, other announcers are
saying it, too.

Actually,
it's commonly called a "Thomas hop" after Kurt Thomas, who first
performed the skill on high bar. The first women credited in
the code with
competing it is Oksana Chusovitna (UZB).
Miller *was* one of the first
high profile athletes to begin using it in
world
competition and it is often mis-named as a
"Miller," much as the
Rulfova (full
twisting back straddle down on beam) was often credited to
Shushunova when she popularized it in the late '80s.

Unsolicited E-mail
To all:
I, too, have been flooded
with E-mail from that "Cyber-Promo." And I,
too,
have sent E-mail to their removal service, only to still be on their
mailing list day after day.
I'm really ticked off
at these people.
Here's what I did, and everybody else on that company's mailing
list
should do the same thing: Call this company's
1-800 number. This number is
supposed to be the
number you call if you want a salesperson. Call it anyway,
though, and tell the salesperson in no uncertain terms you
want your name off
the mailing list. If the
salesperson tries to put you off, ask to speak to
the
person in charge. Be adamant about it.
I already called the
number tonight and got sent to an answering
machine.
I left a stern message, complete with my E-mail address. I also told
them that if I was not taken off the list, I was contacting
the state
Department of Consumer Affairs (which deals
with junk mail, which this is).
Anyhow, the number for
the salespeople is: 1-800-650-9110.

Miller ?
I think that it should be called a
Thomas Hop and not a Miller or
any other name. To
me, a new move should be a new move, and the
creater/first performer should get credit. They
shouldn't call old moves
transfered
to other apparatus a different name! That should be reserved
for only absolutely new moves.
A cartwheel is
a cartwhell, regardless if it is done on beam or
floor.

the "Miller" on bars
When Oksana Chusovitina
performed this at the 1991 Worlds, she
did the hop
full directly into her dismount of 1/2 in - 1/2 out.
It might have
been a full-out.. I havent
slow-mo'd it or anything.
Lets see Miller
try that.

Here's a poem I wrote about gymnastics:
Its called Catwoman..
Pug Hristova
Teammate to Mitova
Maja to you
I will stag leap across your room
Lemme out! Your bedspread is ugly
Get those bars
away from me - HISSSSS
I don't do RELEASES
I don't do drugs
Thats not my urine
I am a
nightmare
Prancing around in your head
Better not go to bed
I might
hurt you
Might paint your face red - or teal
Why was I born
squat
No rhythmic career ahead
Who knows?
Just score me 8.95
and let me lie awake in bed
