Re: jewelry/Dawes
I have often wondered the jewelry question
myself. The FIG Code of
Points does have a section about this but the deduction is
never taken
internationally. I have seen it taken in the JO
program.

Mary Lynne

When
Dominique turned 18 she signed with an agent, Len Elmore. This alone
makes
her ineligible for a college scholarship.
She is currently enrolled at
the University
of Maryland while she continues to train for the Olympics with
her coach, Kelli Hill,
As an aside, Kelli is an alumna of the University of
Maryland and
was a member of their Women's Gymnastics Team under the current
coach, Bob Nelligan.
Dominique
plans to attend Stanford after the Olympics.

Team USA to train in NC
Since so many foreign and U.S. Olympic teams
are coming to train here in
the South before the
Olympics next summer, I called NC Sports
Development to find out who was coming to NC and where they would be
training at.
N.C.S.D. sent me a map of all the training sites here, and
to my surprise, I saw that the gymn
team will be training in Greensboro.
This was a surprise to me, and I LIVE
here. I had heard last summer
that China's gymn team would be
training in Monroe (near Charlotte), but
it wasn't
marked on the map I was sent.
Anyone know if they changed
training
venues? The lady I spoke with also
said that they working with
several other
countries, so maybe we'll be getting some more gymn
teams.
8)
We'll be having the Aussie and New Zealand track &
field teams and
several Norwegian teams training
here in Raleigh, as well.

COACHES: Lever position and Tumbltrak
I was watching a training video, and the
coach was having the girls reach as
far as
possible when passing through the lever position into the handstand
position. I
thought the hands should be placed at the comfortable distance
from the feet as opposed to reaching past that
position. What is the reason
for this?
Also, does anyone have a Tumbltrak system?
How do you like it? What all
do
you use it for? We are in the process of getting the
funding to purchase one
and I am curious what
others think and how it enhances the gymn
training.
Thanks
Debbie

TUMBLE-TRACK
I'm a gymnast and we have a tumble track at our gym and i would recommend it
to any
gym. It can make the learning process of difficult tricks go by very
quick and you can virtually do anything on it. Theres a bar you can attach
that
is great for handstand piroqueets and tkatchev drills. It's also great
if
you have a hurt gymnast so they can train without stressing the injuried
part of their
body.
And for the
question about putting your hands out so far on
handstands(sorry
i earesed who wrote it) My
coaches say that we do that to
help you open your
hip and shoulder angles. it's accually
very effective and
has helped alot
of the gymnasts on our team in other skills and evelnts
that
have that handstand position in it.
Yours,
Melinda

Spanish Men's team
I
was looking through the world's results in IG, and they
mentioned
how Jesus Carballo from Spain did a back toss on PB
that
dislocated before the release.
I
saw his name in the AA results, then tried to find the
results
for the Spanish men's team. They weren't listed in the team compeition,
and there were no
Spanish men listed among the individual gymnasts
either. Was this a huge oversight on IG's
part? Spain usually fields a
full men's team for worlds, and if Jesus competed in AA
finals, he must
have qualified from prelims. Does anyone know how the Spanish team
(if
there was one) did? Or if he was only an individual, did IG
just
"forget" to include his prelim
score? If so, Glenn Sunby would be very
disappointed....
Chris.

Re: COACHES: Lever position and Tumbltrak
I
am a Level 8 Optional gymnast that trains at the Las Vegas Flyers
Gymnastics
Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm
responding to the question
about a tumbltrak. My
gym just recently purchased one, and I absolutely love
it. We use it for all kinds of things, but
mostly to train harder skills
like double-backs, fulls, double fulls, ect. We have a
portable pit that we
placed at the end of the trak for softer landings. It is definitely worth
purchasing!!!
Off the subject a bit, if there are any judges or coaches
reading this, could you please tell me how many tenths are
taken off for
missing a "B" skill in
Level 8? THANKS!!!
Sincerly,
Alll

Kerri Strug
To those who keep track of such
things...Kerri Strug, who has been at Colorado
Aerials
since early summer, has relocated to Karolyi's in
Houston. With Doni
Thompson's
"retirement", this leaves Kristy Powell the remaining "well known"
gymnast at Colorado Aerials. Kerri remains on the team regardless of
the gym
she is associated with. An explanation of her move, coming from
USA Gymnastics
is that "she is just checking
it out." I do know that she
was scheduled to
workout one day last week at
Brown's Houston Gym, but never showed up.

Re: Kerri Strug
What
did you mean when you said Kerri remains on the team
regardless
of what gym she is with?
I
think world team member Theresa Kullikowksi should
also count
as a well known Colorado Aerials gymnast.
I'm
sure Bela will be happy to have her back; I know he
enjoyed
coaching her. I've always been a big fan of Kerri's,
and I feel she's
been underrated in the past, and
still is. She should easily have
been
5th at Worlds. I hope she makes AA again in
Atlanta. If anyone can get
her there, Bela can. But what would a US Olympic team be
without 3
Karolyi gymnasts on it?
Chris.
