Just to add to Rachele and Mayland's information ...

ESPN will rebroadcast the Trials starting Wednesday (it should be on a coupld

of times ... check local listings) as part of it's "Call to Glory" series.

They will use different commentators and their own "cut" (from what I

understand) meaning that it's possible, if not definate, that they will show

gymnasts that NBC does not.

hello everyone!

just caught the independant team championship, and I was impressed.

Finally a twisting vault. usually gymnasts are doing sumersaulting

vaults, but i was glad to see someone trying to throw a double twist.

does anyone do a straight twisting  vault internationally any more?

There was an armenian girl i was impressed with, though i can't remember

her name. i like seeing gymnasts from new countries competing. does

anyone know what she made on her beam routine? my local prime sports

never said in the broadcast, and does anyone know if she'll be doing

college gymnastics?

in next weeks tv guide guess who says he's going to do gymnastic coverage.

at the olympics. you guessed it, john  tesh.

and i was plesently surprised that nbc is going to show compulsorys.

i know a lot of people don't like them, but when i did gymnastics, i

loved them.

about nelli kim not finding a job in america. that's sad. when i did

gymnastics in the late 70's i remember she was the big soviet name in

gymnastics, and i actualy liked her better then nadia. I hope she finds

work soon.

about amy chow being too young for the olympics.

i remember  that being talked about a couple of weeks ago, and tonights

local news had a story about an asian gymnast that was about a week too

young to go to the olympic trials, so she stayed a junior this year.

that gymnast is mina kim.

she trains in edmond oklahoma. perhaps the reader made a mistake in

thinking it was amy. i do remember steve nuno making a huge deal out of

trying to get her waved from the age requirement.

on monday i'm getting a new cable station called clasic sports, does

anyone know if they show gymnastics on it?

i forgot to put a couple of things in my last posting.

at the europens, they talked about using a "new spring form beam" this

beam looked different, as it seemed to be raised a bit above the posts

holding it. the beam had a noticable wobble to it. everytime someone did

a trick, the beam would sway back and forth. before you think i'm making

this up, it was my non-gymnastic fan husband who noticed it.

i loved pods new fx. and i loved the russian turns in it. it was fresh

and original.

i am so glad miller finally gave up that old rutine of hers, i got so

tired of it, when i watch tapes of gymnastics, i fast forwards through

it. she used her music almost as long as   kathy johnson-clarke's dying

swan music.

i'm glad that the older gymnasts are finally becomeing popular again.

another thing to add to the drinking game.

take a large drink everytime Kathy johnson-clarke starts to rave about

how wonderful the chinese are now,

and take another drink when she starts to rave about how inventive they are.

take another drink when she starts going on about how the judges

underscore china all the time.

but be careful, you could get drunk really fast if there are lots of

chinese gymnasts, and johnson-clarke is comentating!

I have to stick up for Jaycie Phelps vault.  I happen to love Jaycie.  The

reason I think she doesn't use a Yurchenko style vault is because she is an

excellent front tumbler. As you can see with her front tumbling on floor.

This makes her perfect for the hands on first vaults.  I doubt very much if

she is afraid of a vault, she could also break her neck on alot of other

skills she is performing. I've done both style vaults and I feel the hands on

first vaults are much harder to perform.  They take much more power in the

run and the Yurchenko vaults are more in the perfect timing and a perfect

round off.  Now I'm sort of happy they devaulued the front vaults it makes my

vaulting workouts much easier.   bye vanessa

For the record, this was a cut from "Red River Rock," a 1950's or perhaps

early 1960's rock 'n' roll version of "Red River Valley."

The boogied-up Nutcracker Suite that was mentioned earlier is also

a rock 'n' roll instrumental from the same period.  I believe it's

by the same group that gave us "Bumble Boogie" (a boogie version

of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee")--B Bumble and the

Stingers.  (As Dave Barry would say, I swear I am not making this up.)

With all the fine rock 'n' roll instrumentals available, why certain

ones get used instead is beyond me.

Thanks in advance, and you can reply privately, if you wish.

I liked Phoebe Mill's floor music...and the choreography. Maybe I am in

the minority here, but I thought it was a great routine. She looked a

lot older than 15 and she really sold the routine with a sincere smile.

BTW, when are women's trials being broadcast this weekend? I must've

missed something here, because I thought they were being broadcast

Saturday at 3 p.m.

Well, you may be in luck!  I heard on the radio this morning that there is a

 group of

people out there who think John Tesh is an alien and they are trying to get him

 removed

from television.  Seems like he's here to spy or something...

I didn't make this up.

Since a lot of people have bashed all of the commentators who have

done the Olympics, USA's, ect...  John, Elfi, Tim, Maura..........

I would like to know who you would like to take their place.  There

aren't a whole lot of choices.

I don't think anyone will ever meet everyone's expectations and

nobody is perfect.

Press the mute button.

I know.  How about Mary Carillo.

Jury Chechi won the All-Around.

It was the last test for the italian team before Atlanta. These are the

Sergio Luini

Boris Preti.

Andrea Massucchi, silver medalist on vault in San Juan (WC), will not be

Recently, I've noticed you talking about flip-flops and mushrooms.  What is

a mushroom (in gymnastics, of course)?  When you talk about a flip flop are

you talking about a back-handspring?  If so, I thought that a back-handspring

was called a flick-flack;  not flip-flop.  I'm probably wrong.  If a

flick-flack isn't a back-handspring, then what is it?

Genevieve Preston to take her place but it is looking hopeful for both of

them.  Kirsty Leigh Brown is still not doing full training.  She has a mat

over the horse, mats on beam and floor.  It is ridiculous if they still take

her, there are 2 perfectly fit gymnasts training their butt off and she

turns up and does strength all training.  I can't see how she is going to be

of any benefit to the team like this.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Subject: Nadia

Hey guys!

Well, this evening we have had the unfortunate experience of trying to

meet Nadia Commaneci. We ended up waiting in line for over an hour and

when we could finally see the podium where she sat to sign autographs,

she was escorted out. We were so upset! She didn't even wave or

anything to the 30 people who had waited so long to meet her. SHe just

walked away. We were so mad. She took so long to sign each persons

autograph and the workers at McAlphins came up with about 4 different

stories on why Nadia had to leave.

We understand that Nadia didn't have a lot of say in what was

happening, but IMHO I think that if a huge crowd came to meet her, she

should at least have enough courtesy to walk by and shake hands or wave

and say she is sorry to go. Instead a bunch of abnoxious workers

stuffed printed autographed posters in our face and said Nadia had a

plane to catch and various other stories such as she was getting worn

out and lack of energy.

She just kind of got up and didn't even look back at the 20 people

(aproximatly) who had wait more than an hour to meet her.

I have lost a lot of respect for Nadia. Many people think that Mary Lou

Retton was an awful gymnast and didn;t deserve a gold, but Mary Lou is

100% better with her personality. She was extremely friendly when I met

her and she stayed to meet every one. Nadia didn't even act like she

cared. Fans don't even seem to matter too much for her. I was overall

disapointed with Nadia. I skipped my gymnastics class and wasted a

whole evening just to get a picture of about 5 bodyguards/policemen

escorting her majesty out of the building.

We just thought we would warn anyone who wants to go to a mall to see

her.

Bye!

The Bradford Book Company is pleased to announce the upcoming

publication of

DOMINIQUE MOCEANU:  A Gymnastics Sensation, a biography by Krista

Quiner that details

Dominique s thrilling gymnastics career from infancy when she hung

from a clothesline as if it

were a parallel bar to adolescence and a national championship.

While presenting unique

perspectives and commentary from a variety of sources, the book

discusses her meteoric rise

from level 5 to elite in only two years and her fight to reach her

lifelong goal of winning a gold

medal at the Olympics.

Packed with quotes, touching stories, and striking photographs, the

biography affords

readers a look behind the scenes at the life of this amazing young

athlete.  This positive but

truthful story explores the family pressures she faced, the difficult

adjustments she endured

switching to Bela Karolyi s gym, and her struggle to overcome

injuries.  It  also recounts how

Dominique fought to become one of the best gymnasts in the United

States and make the 1996

Olympic team.

The author of the book, Krista Quiner, has an extensive background

in gymnastics that

she drew upon to produce this biography.  She was a competitive

gymnast for fifteen years, and

she received a gymnastics scholarship to the University of Denver, an

NCAA Division I school,

where she set a school record on the floor exercise.  Quiner has

written two other titles in this
