Re: What happened to Boginskaya
Yes, Svetlana Boginskaya was supposed to be in Puerto Rico, but she was
a
no-show. All that the media was told was that Bela Karolyi changed his mind
at
the last minute about sending her. Don't know
why. I can't imagine the team
from Belarus was
very happy about this, since by that time it was far too late
to fly in a replacement from Minsk. But congrats to Piskun for doing so well
and
FINALLY getting some of the scores and attention she's deserved for YEARS.
Begue
of France suffered a serious injury and had to undergo surgery in
San Juan.
I heard from a UKR judge who heard from a French judge that the
injury will keep her out of Europeans and, possibly,
Atlanta. This is a big
disappointment (well, to me
at least!) since she's one of the top members of
the
incredibly innovative French team and would have been a real asset in
Atlanta.
Possibly even a medal contender on floor. IMHO, the French have the
most interesting choreography in the world right now.

Mary Lee Tracy & Joan Ryan
In Today's Cincinnati Enquirer there
was a very lengthy article on
Amanda Borden. In it the recent negative hype courtesy
of Ms. Ryan was
addressed. Apparently, Tracy wrote to Ryan to
complain about the one-sided
portrayal of
gymnastics, and din infact receive a letter back from
Ryan.
I can't quote it exactly, but it went something to the effect of she
new
of the excellent reputation of Cincinnati
Gymnastics, both coaches and
pupil alike. Ryan said she felt it was obvious that
Tracy's gym
understood the best the sport can
offer and it showed it her athletes.
IT went on to say some other
complimentary things as well. Now
where
was this for Oprah? Too bad pleasant news doesn't get
Nielsen points.

Well, if this was the case, I
wonder exactly where Joan Ryan stands
right now.
Now she has to acknowledge there are happy ELITES in the
sport.
Maybe we could get Cypress, and get Colorado Aerials to send
letters to. How about getting the collegiate programs to
write to
her? Maybe enough letters could get her
to acknowledege it publicly.

Dina Kotchekova / Liu's Bar
"7) I don't
know if anyone on the list can answer this question, but I was
wodnering if anyone knows if Kotchekova is trained by Schevchencko."
She was coached by the Razumovskij
Husband and wife team at the Army Club in
Moscow, but they are now
coaching in Japan. She is currently
coached by
Leonid Arkaev, as Jenny M has already said.

) Dina deserved to win in my opinion. Lui
had a couple of questionable
balance checks. Who
knows how Marinescu stacked up.
But, just PSYCHED
that Dina finally got a score
that she deserves, considering the fact that
she
was so underscored in Sabae on beam.
In Sabae in finals on landing Dina took a few steps, so her
score was OK.
Some of the others however were overscored.
In
reply to Christophers post re Liu's bar routine being
scored low on
purpose.
The Start Value is set
by the STC, in
conjunction with the WTC member and
the Expert at
The apparatus. The panel judges do
not have a say in the
Start Value and they have to accept it.
I cannot
believe that the "Expert panel" would deliberatly
downvalue a
routine as
you have suggested. Are you sure
that it would have been a 10 SV
if the giant full
was in hdstd.
Can you post the routine so that we could
work
it out. For all
those gymners who haven't got TV coverage yet.
